London Winter. Kasia, a young Polish girl, arrives in the city determined to start a new life. Stirred by memories of her family's past, she endeavours to follow her childhood ambitions of studying the cello.

However, things don't go according to plan and she soon finds herself struggling on the margins of society. Desperate, penniless and alone over Christmas, Kasia's venture seems like becoming another broken dream.

That is, until a glimmer of hope appears in an unexpected guise…
